Who is Velocity Training?
We’re a training provider founded in 2014 that helps inspectors pass API exams—notably API 1169 and API 1184—and earn industry-aligned inspector credentials. Many courses are self-paced online; we also offer an API 1169 classroom option and corporate training.
Does every student have access to an instructor?
Yes. An online instructor is assigned to each course—experienced Senior Pipeline Inspectors or Senior NDT Technicians. Ask questions anytime via our built-in course messaging; we’re happy to help.
Are your online courses self-paced?
Yes--100% online and self-paced inside our Virtual Campus, with instructor support via chat, email, and phone.
Do I get a certificate when I finish?
Yes. Online API prep courses include a 40-hour completion certificate. Certificate programs award their respective credentials upon passing course requirements. (The official API certifications are issued by API after you pass the exam.)
What’s the difference between API exam prep and your Certificate programs?
API exam prep prepares you for API’s certification exams (e.g., API 1169, API 1184). Certificate programs (PCI-1100/2100, PLI-2200, CPCI-2300) teach practical pipeline construction & integrity inspection skills and award VTES certificates upon completion.

Can I have access 24/7?
Yes—you can work on your course at home, in bed, at the airport, on the right-of-way, or in the library—at any hour you want. (We recommend visiting the library during hours when it’s actually open.)
Can I access the course anywhere I have Internet?
Of course. You can sign in from any computer on the World Wide Web and pause/resume anywhere during the course. Our attorney kindly requests you don’t study while driving—even if the signal is excellent.
How long is my access?
API 1169 & 1184 Online offer 7, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180-day options. Certificate programs typically provide a fixed access window (e.g., 90 days for PCI-1100; others noted on each page).
API 1169 — Online Exam Training
What’s included in API 1169 Online?
Narrated lessons, practice tests, reading assignments, and a practice engine with timed & untimed exams. There’s a 900+ question bank with instant explanations, plus a 40-hr PDH/CE certificate (AWS CWI eligible).
Which references are covered?
API RP 1169, API 1104, API 1110, INGAA Pressure Testing Safety Guidelines, CGA Best Practices, plus applicable federal codes and structured reading assignments.

Does the Training Guarantee apply?
Yes—for API 1169 Online plans except the 7-Day option. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you may retake the course (see program terms for details).
API 1169 — Classroom (4-Day)
What’s the format?
Four days of instructor-led, seminar-style training (Days 1–3: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Day 4 to Noon), with immediate pre-class online access after registration.
What’s the price and how do I register?
$795 per seat. See dates and locations on /api-1169-classroom-training or register via the Classroom Catalog.
Do you offer a Training Guarantee for classroom?
Yes. If you attend/participate, complete homework, and attempt the API exam within 3 months, you may re-take a public 4-day class tuition-free or receive a complimentary 30-day online course.
Corporate or private groups?
Yes—onsite and private group classes are available. Email [email protected] to discuss dates and scope. Coffee strongly encouraged, donuts optional.
API 1184 — Online Exam Training
What’s included in API 1184 Online?
12 learning packages, 55 chapters, 22 quizzes (feedback + exam experience versions), unlimited timed practice exams, 20 offline PDFs, instructor support, and a 40-hr completion certificate.
What topics does it cover?
Aligned to the API 1184 Body of Knowledge: facility construction inspection across SCADA, high-voltage switchyards, coatings, safety, environmental controls, commissioning, and more.

Certificate Programs (Construction & Integrity)
Which certificate programs do you offer?
- PCI-1100 • Intro to Pipeline Construction Inspection (beginner-friendly; ~10–20 hours; 90-day access)
- PCI-2100 • Pipeline Construction Inspector (timed, monitored final)
- PLI-2200 • Pipeline Integrity Inspector
- CPCI-2300 • Certified Pipeline Craft Inspector — dual certificates awarded (PCI-2100 and PLI-2200)
Do Velocity-issued certificates expire?
No. Our internal Velocity-issued certificates do not expire.
Are these the same as API certifications?
No. These are VTES certificates that validate training completion and competency for specific curricula. API certifications (1169/1184) are administered by API after you pass the official exam.

Do you offer safety training, too?
Yes—over 70 safety courses via our OT Systems partner portal. Great for individuals and teams who need OSHA topics, construction safety, HAZMAT awareness, and more.

Where do I find all courses?

Do you accept currencies other than USD?
We price in U.S. dollars. We love chocolate-chip cookies, but our accountant says they aren’t legal tender. On the serious side, USD is widely understood and easy to convert. We have students online 24/7 from all over the world. (P.S. Cookies are still welcome—after the enrollment fee.)
Can my company purchase seats for a team?
Yes—contact [email protected] for group purchase options, invoicing, and private group classes.
Guarantees & Policies
What’s your Training Guarantee?
API 1169 Online & API 1184 Online: If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you may retake the course (excludes 7-Day plans; see each program page for terms).
API 1169 Classroom: Attend/participate, complete homework, and attempt the API exam within 3 months for a tuition-free public class re-take or a complimentary 30-day online course.
Refunds, transfers, or switching plans?
Online courses: No refunds once a student has accessed course materials inside the Virtual Campus.
Classroom courses: Cancellations incur a $100 administrative fee and cannot be canceled within 30 days of the class start date. If pre-class materials have been accessed, a 50% refund may be issued provided the request is outside the 30-day window.
Transfers: Considered on a case-by-case basis; a $100 administrative fee applies.
Can I print or share course materials?
No. We’re a small company and need to protect our work product. Our system monitors and logs IP and device information to help protect course security and the integrity of our training programs. Students who violate this policy will be removed from the course immediately. (We’re sure you understand—no one likes their hard work shared or stolen.)

Yes—contact us to discuss needs for online or classroom delivery. For API exam accommodations, apply through API/Prometric per their policies.
