Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why would I be interested in taking an online course for my training?
A: Our online courses are more than competitive at an average total cost between $495 and $1,100 USD. Secondly, you do not have to travel, lose work-time or pay for a hotel – if attending a one or two week classroom seminar. Probably more importantly, you still have access to instructors and trainers WITHOUT being stuck in Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm routine – with a ‘do or die’ final exam or practice exam on the last day. We allow you to study and learn at your own pace and take the final exam when you are ready. If you want to go through the course in 40 hours over a week...great. Or if you want to take 6 months to complete the course, it is ENTIRELY up to you and the access length you purchased (for preparation exams).
Either way, you won’t have these additional expenses:
Q: Will I be certified when I complete my course(s)?
A: That depends on the standards your employer utilizes. Typically, training is only part of the requirements for full certification, especially when you are talking about inspection. Experience, eye examinations and other practical training, as defined in the employer's Written Practice, must be met as a prerequisite to certification. Some employers only require training courses for certification. Obviously, for the API 1169, you will not be certified until you pass the actual API 1169 exam. An authorized course certification will be issued to all who pass a VTES™ course. We will validate your training time with your employer, if needed.
Q: How much extra do I have to pay after enrolling in a course?
A: You never have to pay us anything in addition to the course enrollment fees.
Q: Do you offer any specials?
A: We offer corporate affiliate discounts to many service providers, owner/operators, and other organizations; as well as their clients and 3rd party contractors. Please contact your company or service provider to find out if they have a discount program with Velocity Training.
Q: Are there other costs necessary to complete the course(s) after I pay the enrollment fee?
A: Again, NO additional money is necessary to receive the required course materials/study program, communicate with an instructor, take the qualifying practice exams or get issued authorized VTES™ training certificates. For API exams (API 1169, API 1184, etc.), you will have to pay an application fee to API directly for their application process and entrance to the Prometric examination.
Q: Must I have experience in the related field to take these courses?
A: No experience in Inspection and/or Testing and/or NDT is necessary to take any of our online courses. As a student, you can start learning from any point in your work experience environment. For the API 1169 prep course, it is recommended that you review API's experience requirements to sit for the API 1169 examination.
Q: Why is the currency in USD?
A: Well, we would love to accept chocolate chip cookies as payment but our accountant told us that probably wouldn’t be good for our company. On a serious note, most countries around the globe know where their currency sits with regards to the American Dollar and is the easiest to convert for the student. We have students from all over the world online 24/7. P.S. If you want to send us cookies in addition to the enrollment fee, we won’t tell the bean counter.
Q: Can I have access anywhere I have the internet?
A: Of course you can access the courses from any computer on the world-wide-web since you can pause and resume anywhere you want during the course. Note: Our attorney says we should recommend not taking the course while driving even if you have excellent internet connection.
Q: Can I have access 24/7?
A: Yes, you can be working on your course at home (in bed), at the airport or in the library – at any hour of the day you want. Although we recommend you only use the library during the hours when it is actually open.
Q: Can I print any of the course material?
A: We prefer that you do not print our course material. We do allow the printing of any files or handouts we issue during the course.
Q: How long do I have to complete my course(s)?
A: You can take anywhere from 7 to 180 days to complete your study programs. Your online Instructor is available for same day questions/answers, consultations or special needs. The courses are meant to be self-study for those that like to do on their own, but the Instructors expect to hear from each student on a regular basis to ensure the proper areas of study and offer assistance in any related inspection or testing area. We also offer 4 day API 1169 public courses and on-site training for private companies.
